Congratulations are in order for Rapper/Actor/Producer Ice Cube. Yesterday he released the trailer for his new TV Series, 'Are We There Yet', adapted from his successful movies. The series was picked up by TBS and will highlight the day to day challenges and rewards of living in a blended family. The cast seems pretty good. Check out the trailer. . . The show airs June 2nd and I will definitely be watching. . . something is telling me that this was pitched to BET as well, but wasn't greenlit. SMH. . .KUDOS Ice Cube!!

R.I.P GURU

Another music icon has once again left us. This time it's Guru from the legendary hip-hop group Gangstarr.  The 43-year old lost a year long battle with cancer. After a statement from his best friend and group member Solar was made, a letter from Guru was released.

The man hasn't been dead that long and now there are speculations that Guru did not write this letter himself that that Solar was indeed the one who wrote it.


It read:
"I, Guru, am writing this letter to my fans, friends and loved ones around the world. I have had a long battle with cancer and have succumbed to the disease. I have suffered with this illness for over a year. I have exhausted all medical options.

 I have a non-profit organization called Each One Counts dedicated to carrying on my charitable work on behalf of abused and disadvantaged children from around the world and also to educate and research a cure for this terrible disease that took my life. I write this with tears in my eyes, not of sorrow but of joy for what a wonderful life I have enjoyed and how many great people I have had the pleasure of meeting.

My loyal best friend, partner and brother, Solar, has been at my side through it all and has been made my health proxy by myself on all matters relating to myself. He has been with me by my side on my many hospital stays, operations, doctors visits and stayed with me at my home and cared for me when I could not care for myself. Solar and his family is my family and I love them dearly and I expect my family, friends, and fans to respect that, regardless to anybody's feelings on the matter. It is my wish that counts. This being said I am survived by the loveof my life, my sun KC, who I trust will be looked after by Solar and his family as their own. Any awards or tributes should be accepted, organized approved by Solar on behalf myself and my son until he is of age to except on his own.

I do not wish my ex-DJ to have anything to do with my name likeness, events tributes etc. connected in anyway to my situation including any use of my name or circumstance for any reason and I have instructed my lawyers to enforce this. I had nothing to do with him in life for over 7 years and want nothing to do with him in death. Solar has my life story and is well informed on my family situation, as well as the real reason for separating from my ex-DJ. As the sole founder of GangStarr, I am very proud of what GangStarr has meant to the music world and fans. I equally am proud of my Jazzmatazz series and as the father of Hip-Hop/Jazz. I am most proud of my leadership and pioneering efforts on Jazzmatazz 4 for reinvigorating the Hip-Hop/Jazz genre in a time when music quality has reached an all time low. Solar and I have toured in places that I have never been before with GangStarr or Jazzmatatazz and we gained a reputation for being the best on the planet at Hip-Hop/Jazz, as well as the biggest and most influential Hip-Hop/Jazz record with Jazzmatazz 4 of the decade to now. The work I have done with Solar represents a legacy far beyond its time. And we as a team were not afraid to push the envelope. To me this is what true artists do! As men of honor we stood tall in the face of small mindedness, greed, and ignorance. As we fought for music and integrity at the cost of not earning millions and for this I will always be happy and proud, and would like to thank the million fans who have seen us perform over the years from all over the world. Monique's Brother Apologizes on Oprah

Recently, Gerald Imes, the older brother of comedian/actrees Monique, went on to the Oprah show to publicly apologize to his sister for molesting her when she was only 7 years old.Imes said that his apology and public acknowledgment of what he did, was to clear the air to bring their family back together. Is he being genuine, or is he trying to get in her good graces now that she's won the Academy Award?

2)She looks a hot mess, the only thing worth it in this video is the male eye candy
3)The song is catchy. . . but umm "Uncut" is no longer on BET, so, um, Im not quite sure where they're going to play this video. . .

Soulja Boy and Gucci Mane on its air waves because they think that it encourages girls to basically "sell themselves" for materialistc things! Blah, Blah effin Blah BET! Thats some B.S! Look at the videos that you guys are airing now. Girls chasing men with money, droppin is like its hot, half naked etc. . . and you have a problem with THIS video!?!? Did you guys even look at it?? In the end she shows HER black card with HER name on it!!
I dunno who is getting paid by Jay-Z's camp(Mari's old manager/label), if its Debra Lee or Kelly G but thats the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! get it together BET!!

"According to documents filed in L.A. County Superior Court, Nas had to immediately fork over $47,249.42 in back child support and $40,454 in back spousal support.

The judge also ordered Nas to pay $10,000/month in spousal support until he pays off the $299,015.50 he owes Kelis.

Nas also has to pay 90% of Kelis’ legal fees in the amount of $155,787.28.

Black Men - White Women

So, about a week or so ago, I posted Jill Scott’s Essence Magazine article about the “sting” that black women feel when they see a black man with a white woman.  Shortly after, a long debate of very opinionated woman erupted on my facebook page.  Long story short, one of the individuals, who happened to be a white woman, made the statement that there is no, “sting”, just a black woman’s insecurity. As you can imagine, this opened up a very heated response from black women.

After reading all of the comments and exchanges of words, I started to question why would a black man date a white woman? At the end of the day there are many different reasons, but ones that stood out to me, were status, change and circumstance. Going a step deeper, I have even categorized certain men with each reason.

**Side note: Before I get into this, please note that everything you are about to read is an OPINION… MY OPINION! It’s my blog so I can say whatever I want! All you can do is 1) Agree with me. 2) Disagree with me. 4) Stop reading. Just don’t knock me!

Why BLACK MEN date WHITE WOMEN:

*Status: Taking a looking at SUCCESSFUL black men, athletes, musicians, moguls, entrepreneurs, etc. it is quite evident that an alarming majority of them are toting a white woman on their arm.  Whether they are just dating or married, I believe that their status is what leads them to date outside of their race.

Going back in American history, a black man couldn’t even look at a white woman without being ridiculed and in some cases killed. The white woman was OFF LIMITS! So, in MY OPINION I think that once a black man makes it to a certain financial bracket, or social status, in order to truly feel complete, they get a white woman to be the cherry on top off everything.  A lot of these men have worked hard for what they have and been told no quite a few times in their lives, so once they have the power of choice, they (conscious or subconsciously) choose a mate outside of their race, to show that they “have arrived.”

*Change: Contrary to what I said before, these men are used to black women. They’ve had and dealt with them all. From the hood sistas, controlling sistas, educated sisstas, stuck up sistas etc. and now, they want a change.  After having failed relationships with black women, they feel the need to explore outside of their race.

For other black men, curiosity is also a leading factor. All their lives they’ve been with and around black women and may have gotten bored. In order to satisfy their appetite for something new, they date outside of their race.

*Circumstance:

Not all black men grew up in areas where black people were prevalent. For some black men, they grew up in predominantly white neighborhoods and may have only been exposed to white women their entire lives. While some men may have black white and Latina women to choose from, these men have blonde, brunette or red heads as their choices in finding a mate.

I also believe that sometimes a combination of all three may occur. . . again, there is no definite answer to this question because its such a personal issue.

All I can say is be open and don’t be to quick to judge.

Kiely Williams Defends Her Video

" I am an actor and performer. I have been so since my first role in a television pilot at five years old. I played a character when I was a “Cheetah Girl.” I am playing a character in themusic video for the song “Spectacular,” as I did in the “Cheetah Girl” movies. The fact is, that sometimes women get intoxicated and have unprotected sex. My video puts this issue front and center. It is absurd to infer or suggest that I am condoning this behavior. Are Lady Gaga and Beyonce advocating murder with the “Telephone” video? Of, course not. WasRihanna encouraging suicide with “Russian Roulette?” No. Was Madonna suggesting that young unmarried girls get pregnant with “Papa Don’t Preach?” I don’t think so. Is Academy Award winner Monique a proponent of incest because of her portrayal of Mary in the movie“Precious.” Clearly, the answer is no. I wrote “Spectacular” and made the video to bring attention to a serious women’s health and safety issue. Don’t shoot the messenger."

That's her official statement in regards to the video and song 'Spectacular". . . makes sense. . . all of these other songs that we listen to have some pretty inappropriate topics that are often which dumbed down. . . she was just very straight forward and raw with hers. . . whatevs,  still like the song! ;-)
