R.I.P: Gary Coleman Dies at 42

Ok, well it is no longer a rumor, media outlets nationwide are reporting that actor Gary Coleman passed away.  Yesterday after a fall he slipped into a coma and was placed on life support after suffering an intracranial damage. Coleman was most known for his role in the 80's sitcom, "Different Strokes."

50 Cent Sheds Weight For Movie Role

New pictures of rapper 50 cent emerged online after he slimmed down from 216lbs to 140lbs for a role in the upcoming film, "Things Fall Apart." 50 lost all the weight in 9 weeks by operating off of a liquid diet and hitting the treadmill for 3 hours a day. WOW!  I hope the film is a success. . . I'm talking Oscar worthy!!

Jamaica: 'All Out War"

SMH, It seems that things in Jamaica are getting from bad to worse. In three days, 26 people have been injured and 30 dead, due to the civil war among Jamaican police/army and the gang members/supporters of drug lord, "Dudus." He is  wanted for extradition to the United States on gun and drug trafficking charges

Wow! I dont know what Siovaughn Wade is up to, but it must NOT be good! Word has it that her divorce attorney quit on her! Hm, did I mention that this is her 9TH DIVORCE ATTORNEY!! Whatever it is that's going on that will make a divorce attorney for a potential multi-million dollar case leave has to be SERIOUS. The attorney said that he was leaving the case due to "irreconcilible differences". . Good luck with this one ma'!

Well, last week BET released its list of nominees for this year's BET Awards, and one surprising name added to this year's New Artist category was pop sensation, Justin Bieber!! While some people are ok with his, I must say, I was a bit disappointed. I amnot a fan and I honestly don't think that he's deserving. Not because he is white. Justin Timberlake, Eminem and Robin Thicke all received BET Award nominations and they are all white. . . however, they had more of an appeal to African Americans...IDK,for some reason, I just think that this is a way to get Usher some recognition, since he is his artist, and oh so successful. . . Hopefully he doesn't win!

Well, BET is at it again, and this time with good reason. They have decided not the air the video to R&B singer Ciara's steamy new single, "Ride." Don't get me wrong, I love the song and the video is perfect for that song, however, it is a bit too steamy for daytime television programming. I recently had the opportunity to get into the mind of Mr. Broadway Miller to take some insight on who he really is..





Q. Who is Broadway Miller?:
A. Broadway Miller is a country, talented, intelligent, realistic boy frm
Columbus County, NC...The name comes from the two streets I live on
growing up in 910...Most would say I'm a "rapper"..I laugh when they say
that...I am a hip hop artist whose talent goes beyond putting words
together

Q. What makes you/your sound different from other rappers today?:

A. I usually rap @ a northern pace over southern beats or vice
versa...this is probably bc of my influences..I listen to ALL hip
hop...so being from the south automatically I'm drawn to southern hip
hop, T.I. UGK, 3 6 Mafia...and when I first started listening to hip
hop, I listened to a bunch of northern artists, Wu-Tang, Nas, AZ..


Q. Being that you're from the south (N.C), how do you feel when critics
blame most southern artists for the slow death of hip-hop?

A. I laugh, honestly!...The south has respected everyone (coast or type
of hip hop) time to shine..they need to respect the south now...we just
make good music...granted, there are a couple of bad apples out of the
bunch but over all we are the most dominant and influential right
now...Artists who have paved the way like Getto Boys, 8Ball and MJG,
Uncle Luke, etc finally get to see 'the south' shine...I tell ppl to hop
on the bandwagon bc southern hip hop aint goin nowhere, get used to it!

Q. What makes your sound different than other southern rappers?

A. My content!...I'm the Hip Hop artist with the angel on one shoulder
and the devil on the other lol...in my rhymes I express both, good and
bad, relating to my situations in life as well as my thoughts...I've
accomplished a lot that can be considered positive, on the other hand
I've been apart of things that would be looked down upon...many artists,
period, choose a side...I choose to give you both...

Q. Where you do see yourself in 5 years?

A. Being an established and respected artist by ALL... owning a lounge and
restaurant...giving others opportunities that I didn't have...

Q. Beemer, Benz or Bentley?

A. Maybach lol

Q. Trina, Kim or Nicki?

A. Kim, just bc she laid some of the ground work so that artists like
Trina and Nicki can shine...

A. Bottle..............of water lol

BET Co-Founder Shelia Johnson Isn't Pleased

There is no secret that a lot of people are frustrated and angered by BET Networks and their programming, but when one of the co-founders has this to say, its a shame:

'"Don’t even get me started, I don’t watch it. I suggest to my kids [a 20-something daughter and a college-age son] that they don’t watch it… I’m ashamed of it, if you want to know the truth."

It wasn’t always that way. “When we started BET, it was going to be the Ebony magazine on television,” Johnson tells me. “We had public affairs programming. We had news… I had a show called Teen Summit, we had a large variety of programming, but the problem is that then the video revolution started up… And then something started happening, and I didn’t like it all. And I remember during those days we would sit up and watch these videos and decide which ones were going on and which ones were not. We got a lot of backlash from recording artists…and we had to start showing them. I didn’t like the way women were being portrayed in these videos.

Johnson says she no longer has any connection with BET. “I just really wish—and not just BET but a lot of television programming—that they would stop lowering the bar so far just so they can get eyeballs to the screen,” she says. “I know they think that’s what’s going to keep programming on the air; that’s what’s going to sell advertising. But there has got to be some responsibility. Somebody has got to take this over. Because with all the studies that are out there, this is contributing to an atmosphere of free sex, ‘I don’t have to protect myself anymore.’'
