Power to the people! lol. The top two most powerful celebrities  according to Forbes magazine are two beautiful black women, Oprah Winfrey and Beyonce. Today they released their list of the 100 most powerful people, here's who made the top 20.

 Lauryn Hill spoke with National Public Radio very recently.  Here's a bit of what was said. 

Lauryn on being both a singer and a rapper  

“There used to be a singing voice and there used to be a rapping voice but now the singing voice has to become more like my speaking voice in order for the two to be able to coexist."

On her creative experience
 “When I create music, I think the feeling you get, I get first….when I first have a creative insight, not just the voice but the creativity, the production, the idea, the concept, the music involved, there is a high, there is an emotional experience for sure”. (:01-:26)

Why she stopped putting out music
“There were a number of different reasons," she says. "But partly, the support system that I needed was not necessarily in place. There were things about myself, personal-growth things, that I had to go through in order to feel like it was worth it. Oftentimes, I think people are forced to make decisions prematurely. And then that sound radiates.”

"I'm trying to open up my range and really sing more," she says. "With The Fugees initially, and even with Miseducation, it was very hip-hop — always a singing over beats. I don't think people have really heard me sing out. So if I do record again, perhaps it will have an expanded context. Where people can hear a bit more."

"I don't know if you know this, but I have five children," she says. "The youngest is 2 now, so she's old enough that I can leave her for a period of time and know she's going to be okay. That's one reason [Hill is starting to perform again]. And I think it's just time. I'm starting to get excited again. Believe it or not, I think what people are attracted to about me, if anything, is my passion. People got exposed to my passion through music and song first. I think people might realize, you know, 'We love the way she sounds, we love the music, but I think we just love how fearless she is. How boundless she is, when it comes to what she wants to do.' And I think that can be infectious."

I hope that Lauryn really comes back into the game. . . the music industry needs her!!

Last night BET gave Chris Brown the opportunity of a lifetime. He did a tribute to Michael Jackson that I am sure he would have been proud of. Chris did a phenomenal job with the dancing part but broke down in tears when it came time for him to perform 'Man In The Mirror.' Brown was too choked up to even belt out two words. The crowd then joined in to sing the song for him. . . BEAUTIFUL!! I honestly think that he was emotional because he reflected back on his own 'man in the mirror.' . . . Jay-Z & Eminem Give NYC Rooftop Performance

If this isn't amazing PR then I don't know what is. Yesterday rappers Jay-Z and Eminem gave a rooftop performance on the Ed Sullivan Building, home of The David Letterman Show. The two did this to promote their upcoming "Double Up" tour. Rumors started swirling about this performance over the weekend, however due to the riot last week caused by Drake's free performance and the Southstreet Seaport in NYC, the city banned this performance. I'm not sure what strings were pulled, but the two were able to perform and by the looks of things, everything went smoothly.
This performance will air on Friday on the David Letterman Show. Until then, enjoy these video clips and photos!

Alicia Keys & Swizz Beats Have African Union

It look as if things are very, very serious between Alicia Keys and her fiance' Swizz Beats. 
According to the The Sun UK , "The two recently embraced regional traditions to honor their union in South Africa.  The two had their impending marriage blessed in a traditional Zulu ceremony. In addition to this, the couple also had their unborn child blessed. 
According to The Sun:

"Wearing tribal beads, Alicia and her baby were given Zulu names while standing under a fig tree known as the ‘healing tree’ by locals who believe it brings good fortune and health. ‘Two female priests who practice a mix of Christianity and tribal custom chose new names for her and the unborn child, as a mark of respect. The names were kept between them, but were chosen to reflect Alicia’s character. - - ‘Alicia had to do a special dance with drums banging in the background, and was embraced by abused children who she has helped. She was chosen for the ceremony as a thank-you, because she has done a lot to keep children’s lives afloat and for us to afford our support staff."

Wow, thats a whole lot!

Drake Free NYC Concert Cancelled Due To Riots & Uncontrollable Crowd

Wow, well I guess its a good thing that I wasn't able to attend the free Drake concert at the South Street Seaport, because it never happened! Here is what Entertainment Weekly reported:

"A free concert at New York City’s South Street Seaport featuring hip-hop star Drake and the group Hanson was canceled yesterday when the organizers found themselves overwhelmed by the number of fans, some who turned unruly. A crowd of about 10,000 was expected, but Fox New York reported that as many as 25,000 packed the Pier 17 area for the show. Organizers said in a statement that the event was canceled after the situation was no longer safe. Fights broke out and video recorded chairs being thrown into the crowd.

The police arrested two people, for obstructing government administration and disorderly conduct, and three people were treated for minor injuries.

The Canadian rapper never took the stage and later tweeted, “I am so disappointed. To all the devoted fans that came out I wish you could have seen what I had planned! Until next time.”

'Ye Returns On Stage: Performs w. Jay-Z in England.

It looks like rapper Kanye West is slowing starting to come back into the limelight.  He surprised fans in England when the got on stage and performed 'Run This Town' with Jay-Z at the Isle of Wright Festival on Friday. I guess he is getting his practice on for the BET Awards as he was recently just added to the list of performers for that night.

FYI . . . Kudos to Ye's PR team for telling him to lay low. . . for so long. . . I actually missed him. . . looking forward to seeing/hearing more from him.

Nicki Minaj Gets Sued! Ro-Ro Roger That

Rapper Nicki Minaj agreed to rent a 2008 Lamborghini Murcielago to shoot her "Massive Attack" music video. The rate of the rental was  $1,750 a day. The rental car company alleges that Minaj didn't pay three days rent on the car and now owes them 5,250 for that.  The main reason for the law-suite however, was the car was driven off-road and damaged. According to the company, MInaj caused $11,589.41 worth of damage. . .SMH. . .

Drake Admits: Rihanna Played Him

It looks as if rapper, Drake is letting the cat out of the bag about his fling with singer, Rihanna. On the song "Fireworks" on the new CD, Thank Me Later, He says this:

"I could tell it wasn't love/ I just thought you'd f---ed with me/ Who could have predicted/ Lucky Strike would have you stuck with me," (Lucky Strike is a bowling alley where the two were seen making out.))  - - He goes on to say "Damn, I kept my wits about me, luckily/ What happened between us that night, it always seems to trouble me/ Now all of a sudden, these gossip rags want to cover me/ And you making it seem like it happened that way because of me."

In addition to that  He spoke to the NY times and said - - "I don't even know if I wrote a rap song in that whole nine months," Drake said. "Because I wasn't a rapper anymore. I didn't believe in myself. I was someone else's property." - - "I was a pawn," Drake told the newspaper - -"You know what she was doing to me? She was doing exactly what I've done to so many women throughout my life, which is show them quality time, then disappear. I was like, 'Wow, this feels terrible.' "

I guess that was Drake's dose or Karma. . . interesting. . .

Is Mariah Carey Preggo? Tyler Perry Confirms It For Me!

The latest celebrity pregnancy watch had now been placed on singer Mariah Carey. Recently she gained alot of weight and rumors started swirling. Personally, I didnt think she was pregnant because I didnt see a baby bump and she is notorious fro gaining and loosing weight, so I didnt pay the rumors any attention. . . UNTIL, I was forwarded this message that Tyler Perry posted on his newsletter. Read it and see what is says. . .

"I'm in Harlem WORLD...

You all know I have done all of these performances on tour - 125 shows in 126 days, so I couldn't wait to chill and get some rest. I even sent you a picture from my little bit of paradise. I'm there chillin'.me and a very special friend. We're sunbathing and swimming, I'm flying my RC planes. We even decided to go to this place where you can swim with the sharks. She decided to swim. Me, well, let's just say I figured that someone would have had to tell the story if it went badly, so I stayed on the dock.LOL.

Anyway, I'm there on vacation, celebrating life, thanking God and just relaxing when I get a message that I have to come home, that Mariah has dropped out of the film! I said "What? You're kidding? It's five days before she has to go to work, nobody does that. We have a deal. IT'S FIVE DAYS BEFORE SHE IS SUPPOSED TO GO TO WORK! So, I got on the plane and came home and started trying to re-cast this major role in the film.
I land and get to the studio, and I'm like, what happened? I was told that we got a call, saying that even though our deal was done, she had been advised by her doctor not to do the film. I said "What? You know I want a doctor's note, don't you?!"...LOL
But to tell you the truth, I don't know what that means and, unlike the tabloids, I won't speculate. All I know is that I'm waiting just like the rest of the world to find out what happened.
In spite of this, what you need to know is that I am a huge Mariah Carey fan and always will be. What I do know of the woman is that she is a professional and wouldn't back out of a deal unless it was a major issue.
So, whatever is going on, I wish her and Nick the best, and she has all my love, prayers and support. I just wish I could have finished my Mai Tai before I had to get back and re-cast this role!
Anyway, I wanted to announce the official cast, baring anymore doctor surprises, : here they are: Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, Loretta Devine, Anika Noni Rose, Thandie Newton, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington, Phylicia Rashad, Macy Gray, Tessa Thompson, Michael Ealy, Hill Harper, Khalil Kain, Omari Hardwick and Richard Lawson.
