TODAY IN BLACK HISTORY: Feb. 1st 2009

  • On Feb. 1st 1865  The 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which abolished slavery, was adopted by the 38th Congress. Ratification was completed December 6, 1865.

  • On Feb. 1st 1926 - "Negro History Week" began. This was the stepping stones to what is now, "Black History Month"that began in 1976. We can thank Carter G. Woodson for this.

  • On Feb. 1st 1952 - Singer Rick James was born. "Im Rick James BITCHH!!!". . .(sorry. . .i had to!)

  • On Feb. 1st 1974 - The TV Show "Good Times" made its premiere on CBS!

**I AM PRETTY SURE SOME OTHER THINGS HAPPENED ON THIS DAY IN BLACK HISTORY. . .BUT, I JUST THOUGHT THAT THESE WERE WORTH MENTIONING**
